Explorer Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the administrative arm of the Parent Association. The committee members meet each month to discuss issues and make decisions involved in augmenting the learning process, including everything from grounds and facilities to special programs. The group also functions as a sounding board for the teachers and parents. Steering meetings are currently held on the first Monday of each month from 5:00-6:30pm. Steering members continue to participate as classroom volunteers as well as serving on steering. All steering positions are a two year commitment.

The steering positions and abbreviated job descriptions are as follows:

Co-Chairs - The Co-Chairs assume primary leadership responsibilities for the Explorer Parent Association facilitating monthly steering and parent association meetings

Secretary - keeper of records, minutes and calendar; director of communications

Treasurer - maintains and reports permanent financial records of the Explorer Parent Association

Enrollment Coordinator - works with the principal and teachers on the recruitment and enrollment of Explorer Community School students

Educational Support Coordinator - liaison between Staff (Explorer and Specialists) and the Steering Committee

Volunteer Coordinator - works closely with the parents and teachers to organize parent volunteer time
