Meet the Principal

Barbara Pridgeon

Welcome Explorer Community and Go Eagles!

Explorer Community School is an exceptional school community with talented students, dedicated staff, and a supportive parent community. Our students thrive in this rich environment and have great opportunities to grow and develop as young mathematicians, writers, artists, and scientists.

This is my third year as principal and instructional leader of Explorer Community School and I love serving this community. I have strong roots here. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have lived here most of my life. I earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Evergreen State College and while getting my Master in Teaching from the same college, I also served as an Executive Fellow to Governor Locke as Community Involvement Coordinator. I have been both an English Language Arts teacher and a school counselor. Additionally, I worked at Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction as the Reading Programs Manager implementing literacy programs to increase student achievement. I have also served as a District Educational Specialist supporting literacy instruction. Most recently, I served four years as an assistant principal at the Bethel School District.

On a personal note, my husband and I have grown children and a grandson. We enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing ping-pong, doing crossword puzzles, hiking, and planning our next travel adventure.

The Explorer Staff and I are passionate about providing the best possible educational experience for our students. My goal is to continue to partner with families and the community to provide leadership that facilitates a safe learning environment where students’ curiosity is nurtured, and they are challenged academically.

I look forward to another great year.

Warmest Regards,
Barbara Pridgeon
