Family Participation

Parent involvement is the key to providing differentiated small group instruction. The parents, staff, and principal, work cooperatively to provide the best possible learning environment for all students at Explorer Community School. The school depends on parent participation both inside and outside of the classroom. The parent/teacher relationship is a basic element of the classroom. Parent volunteers are an integral part of the classroom working alongside and with the students. Teachers are the primary educators; parents augment the learning process.

Parent participation is encouraged in four areas:
1. One hour in direct classroom support each week (families with more than one child in the school are asked to contribute more so that the teacher still has the necessary adult support).
2. Attendance at monthly parent association meetings.
3. Committee work. See Committees for a list of opportunities.
4. Drive/chaperone on at least two field trips per Explorer student a year.
